Overboard 1987 – A Classic Sea comedy Movie

“Overboard” is a 1987 American romantic comedy film directed by Garry Marshall, written by Leslie Dixon, starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and produced by Roddy McDowall.

The film follows a wealthy socialite who suffers from amnesia after falling from her yacht while vacationing on the coast of Oregon.

A carpenter who had previously worked for her takes advantage of her amnesia and convinces her that she is his wife and the mother of his four sons. The film received mixed reviews upon its release but has since become a cult classic.

A reimagined film of the same name, starring Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez, was released in 2018, with the main roles reversed from the 1987 original.

    Plot of overboard (1987)

The plot of “Overboard” (1987) revolves around a wealthy and arrogant socialite, Joanna Stayton, portrayed by Goldie Hawn, who lives on a luxury yacht with her snobbish husband. When she hires a local carpenter, Dean Proffitt, played by Kurt Russell, to work on her closet space and then refuses to pay him, a series of events unfolds.

After Joanna falls overboard and suffers from amnesia, Dean sees an opportunity for revenge and convinces her that she is his wife, hoping to teach her a lesson by making her work as a domestic laborer and mother to his four sons. The film explores themes of class differences, personal transformation, and the development of genuine relationships.

It is a romantic comedy that showcases the evolution of the characters and their interactions, ultimately leading to a heartwarming and humorous story. The movie has been described as a twist on the classic “rags to riches” narrative, with the characters experiencing personal growth and unexpected developments throughout the plot.

    The Seaholic Review

A nice comedy. an example of “80 not great but seductive cinema. or, only,Goldie Hawne and Kurt Russell. In fact, a seductive version of The Prince and the Pauper with right cast, right story, amusing moments and energetic development and with useful moral lesson.

It is so easy to criticize it than must see only. as a simple story, about simple people and the clash between different worlds. and this is all. just fun. Nothing complicated or profound. only a young woman and her universes. and the bitter lesson about life.

After its end remains only a not bad reflection about destiny, rich people and happy people. and the sensation to be viewer of a fairy tale but this is the basic purpose of each film.

So, a nice, smart and seductive Sea Film.
